Great handbook, my favorite. Hard disk installation, the only one to memorize window sizes and position, also on the second monitor. Immediate search (while keying in), observation tables, the user may search specific areas of a document, for example, sections with phrases, false friends, notes on cultures and customs, etcetera. Word pronunciation, dialogues and illustrated atlas. I think specialist dictionaries, such as the Marolli, should be illustrated too. These are the very dictionaries which would benefit the most from a combination of  terms and illustrations. Easily
Oxford Paravia Inglese-Italiano-Inglese 3.0
Another excellent product and my second favorite. Can be copied on the hard disk. Immediate search (while keying in). Easily managed by IntelliWebSearch.

Grande dizionario Hazon di inglese, 2009
Interesting interface, font may be enlarged and size memorized, interesting typing error control system, verb tables, phrasal verb button, word pronunciation. False friends indicated. Remarkable for compound words. The terms found cannot be selected and copied. It does not memorise window sizes and position. Some functions are defective. For example, you can only open the search window by copying and pasting a word in the designated field and pressing enter; the search works only in MS Word, it is very SLOW and works only on the main monitor. Furthermore, the Point&Go function that should be active everywhere (FF, IE, Outlook etc.), sometimes doesn't work, for example in Trados TagEditor. Impossible to manage with IntelliWebSearch.

WordNet 2.1 - 2005
It does not memorize window sizes and position, but it remembers other options such as font size. No immediate search (while keying in). Excellent tool. Highly recommended due to its comprehensiveness and the authority of the developers (Princetown University). Manageable by IntelliWebSearch.

Devoto-Oli 2010 - 2009
Hard disk installation, Java format. It does not memorize window sizes and position. One of the best and the most modern. Immediate search (while keying in), double pronunciation (foreign - Italian) of foreign words impressive and original. Easily managed by IntelliWebSearch.

Easily virtualizable. Interface and functions identical to those of Grande dizionario HOEPLI by Fernando Picchi. Eclipse format. Immediate search (while keying in). It does not memorize window sizes and position. Term search may be restricted to certain specialist sectors. Easily managed by IntelliWebSearch.

Zanichelli Edigeo, l'inglese tecnico e scientifico, 2005
More difficult to virtualize due to Securom 7. It does not memorize window sizes and position.  Immediate search (while keying in). Term search may be restricted to certain specialist sectors. Easily managed by IntelliWebSearch.

Zanichelli McGraw-Hill, 2004
Easily virtualizable. It does not memorize window sizes and position. No immediate search (while keying in). Term search may be restricted to certain specialist sectors. The encyclopedia part is only in English. Let's hope it will get updated. The problem with the old Zanichelli dictionaries is that McGraw-Hill interferes with the Medicina e biologia's opening and vice versa (at least on my system), but a new patch fixes this issue. Easily managed by IntelliWebSearch.

Only with the obsolete paper format, few modern terms, however the only EN>IT military dictionary on the market.

Nuovo Medicina e biologia - 2003
Easily virtualizable. No immediate search (while keying in). It does not memorize window sizes and position.  Excellent medical dictionary. If it were more updated and installable it would be my number 1. It interferes with the McGraw-Hill (see above) but a new patch fixes this issue. Easily managed by IntelliWebSearch.

Dizionario medico by M.L. Petrella, 2007
Installation on the hard disk. VB format. Great alternative to and/or integrated with the age-old Zanichelli. Unfortunately the interface is somewhat rudimentary: it does not memorise window sizes and position or unfortunately even the initial interface aspect, thus each time the program starts up you must click four times before being able to consult it. Furthermore, although the font and its sizes can be changed, which is very useful for blind translators (like myself), the program does not memorize any changes, so you need to make the changes all over again each time the program is started up. If the editor fixed these issues it would be the number one. Easily managed by IntelliWebSearch.

Stedman's Electronic Medical Dictionary v7.0 - 2010
The best English encyclopedic medicine dictionary on the market. Unfortunately there is no multilingual version, but many features make it very useful for EN>IT translators:
    * Many terms have explanatory pictures and movies
    * A lot of terms relating to the pictures are in Latin, making things easier for us
    * The illness description includes the ICD-9 code letting me find the matching Italian term in few seconds, thanks to Logiterm Pro 5! Easily managed by IntelliWebSearch.

Excellent medical statistics log, explained simply and practically, developed by Ezio Bottarelli, professor at Parma's Faculty of Veterinary medicine. All files are in html format. Highly recommended for medical translators and others who, like me, have difficulty understanding certain abstruse statistical concepts. Indexed by Logiterm Pro.
